This is Golden Girl....she had two sisters that always hung out when she stayed behind hoping to have babies! The two sisters were killed by a coyote. :(
Thankfully before the two sisters were killed we got Golden Girl fertilized eggs to sit on. This helped her get through losing her sisters!
Golden Girl waited patiently for 21 days nurturing her adopted eggs!
We would take her treats while she watched and waited! We had to mark the eggs because we knew she would take all the eggs and sit on them. When we lifted her up she had 18 eggs under her!!! She had been taking her sister's eggs too!
Out of nine fertilized eggs we ended up with 4 baby chicks! What a miracle!
Here they come out from under Golden Girl momma!
We ended up with 1 black chick and 3 yellow ones!
Baby chick decided it wanted watermelon instead of feed!
So did the black one....
What do you think brother?
Just too adorable....
It's little beak is not fully developed yet...
Yummy
Time for chicks to go nighty-nite! Up under her they go....
Bye-bye!
All four of them together

Amazing how far momma can turn her neck!
Little blackie....so cute!
Oh, we can use momma as a slide! Let's play on her!
Okay...this is fun!
A little watermelon before bedtime!
After momma hen spent 6 nights right inside our sliding glass door in a turned over clothes hamper we decided it was time for her to go to the farm. We pack her up in the clothes hamper to travel.
We covered her up for the journey so she wouldn't want fly away and then decided it was too risky to drive with the top down....we didn't want her to fly away!
The kids met us as soon as we arrived and so did their BIG dog! Golden girl was just sitting there wondering what was going on.
How lucky is Golden girl? Looks pretty lucky to me!
The transfer from me to them. (The littlest of the four children was already in bed)
I am so happy these 3 cute children love my Golden Girl.
We giggled and laughed and put a red jeweled necklace on her and decided to name her Jewel! (Don't worry, I took the necklace off her & now one of the little girls has a bracelet)
Golden Girl (Jewel) didn't seem to mind her beautiful attire!
We went back to meet the adopted family of hens.
Poor chick (the only one on the farm) is now protected by 3 mother hens! Golden Girl (Jewel) is checking it out!
Both of these hens mother the one chick!
Then we met the cousins!!!! They wanted to know what was going on!
